Ep. 17 - Bullied But Unbroken
In this powerful episode of Broken to Build, host Lauryn DeLoach welcomes Evelyn Edwards, a 17-year-old high school senior, to share her journey of overcoming bullying, finding her identity in Christ, and learning how to navigate mean people in today’s world.
From an early age, Evelyn was different. Raised in a home filled with love, faith, and strong values, she often stood out—always choosing kindness, befriending the outcast, and staying true to her unique style. But standing apart also made her a target. Throughout school, Evelyn faced verbal and emotional bullying from both boys and girls who didn’t understand her confidence and strong moral compass.
As she got older, things only intensified. A traumatic cheerleading injury left her physically vulnerable, but the cruelty from others didn’t stop. In one shocking incident, Evelyn was physically pushed against a vending machine, with no consequences for the aggressor. The experience made her question everything: Why do some people hurt others? Why do schools often fail to take action? How do you stay strong when you feel completely alone?
But instead of letting these experiences define her, Evelyn leaned deeper into her faith in God. Through scripture, personal reflection, and the unwavering support of her family, she learned to set boundaries, recognize her worth, and step into her calling with confidence.
Now, as she prepares to enter Clemson University, Evelyn is using her story to inspire others. She shares how she overcame people-pleasing, why she no longer cares about fitting in, and how to find peace in your identity—even when the world tries to break you.
This episode is a must-watch for anyone who has ever felt out of place, struggled with bullying, or needed a reminder that their true worth comes from God, not the opinions of others.

Ep. 15 - From Orphan Spirit to Daughter of the King
Monday Mar 10, 2025
Monday Mar 10, 2025
Many of us carry wounds from our past that unknowingly shape how we see God. Whether it’s childhood experiences, absent or distant parents, or a deep-rooted fear of rejection, these wounds often create an orphan spirit—a mindset that keeps us from fully embracing God’s love, provision, and protection.
In this deeply personal and unplanned episode, Broken to Build host Lauryn DeLoach shares a powerful revelation: for years, she unknowingly struggled with the orphan spirit. She never fully saw God as a good father—not because He wasn’t, but because her life experiences had painted a flawed picture of Him. This realization sparked a profound journey of healing, surrender, and identity transformation.
Joined by Melissa Perry, they engage in an open, heartfelt conversation about how the orphan spirit manifests in our lives—through fear, control, self-protection, and even the inability to truly believe we are loved and cared for. They explore how past experiences shape our ability to trust God, and they share biblical truths and personal testimonies to break free from these mental strongholds. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone who has ever felt unworthy, struggled with trusting God’s provision, or wondered if He truly delights in them. If you’ve ever found yourself trying to control your life out of fear, believing you have to earn God’s love, or struggling with feeling safe in His hands—this episode is for you.
